Thirty years ago, an unknown "invasive alien species" appeared, and the world came close to ruin. Ever since, humanity and these creatures—known as "Invaders"—have fought over living space. Human safety is now barely secured, but the world could collapse again at any moment. Fearing death and destruction, people go about their daily lives while averting their eyes from the dangers and disasters around them. Amid this world, the UN's Hazardous Species Research Organization, "EXCEEDS," has begun operations to fend off the crises and calamities caused by the Invaders. The story begins on Mizuho, an island nation in the Far East. Shiina Kuze is a girl who lives on a remote island, working as a hunter who exterminates Invaders. But what incident awaits Shiina, who only wishes for a quiet life with her one and only family—her little sister, Setsuna—?
